Stephanie Kusano is an Assistant Director of Assessment at University of Michigan’s Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT). She specializes in work related to student learning assessment and program assessment. Stephanie consults with instructors and programs across the U-M campus on questions related to course/curriculum design, engaged and experiential learning, and equitable teaching practices. She also has experience working with university administration on large university initiatives, including the Third Century Initiative, and U-M’s 2020 re-accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission.
Stephanie’s research before joining CRLT focused on co-curricular engineering design experiences, specifically the outcomes, affordances, and barriers of co-curricular experiences from engineering students’ perspectives. While completing her Ph.D., Stephanie was part of a team tasked with redesigning, piloting, and teaching a First-Year Engineering curriculum. Upon completing her graduate work, she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at George Mason University, facilitating assessment design and educational research on informal learning in Engineering. Stephanie earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, a M.S. in Biomedical Engineering in the area of biomechanics, and a Ph.D. in Engineering Education, all from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!).
